This North Beach sunset maternity session was one of those perfect moment sessions. It had rained for 90% of July (we all remember this right?) and there, on the forecast horizon was one day where the sun was shining. We postponed until that day. Normally I don’t book shoots during the week, but as this was a maternity client, the clock was ticking.
Beach sessions can look amazing. I love the colours at sunset, that glow when the sun dips down past the horizon and you get this dreamy light for approximately 10/15 mins. On the other hand, beach sessions can be tricky. With no clouds in the sky, photographers are dealing with direct sunlight and have to get creative with angles. The wind/sea breeze is also not your friend. And a beach session in winter? All my fingers and toes were crossed.
Michelle and Luis were brilliant from the start
We met last year when I photographed their Cottesloe wedding. It’s always special to follow clients and have the honour of documenting their journey at these life milestones. They couldn’t have picked a better day for beach photos. It was warm (ok, it was warmer than it had been all week) and there was no wind that afternoon at Hamersley Pool. You couldn’t have asked for better conditions!
Michelle bought her own dress for the first half and then opted to change into one of the dresses from my client wardrobe. This Maya Maternity dress (size 10) is proving a favourite with clients. Its soft flowing tulle skirt flows easily over the bump and long sequined sleeves add that special sparkle to the overall look. When picking an outfit of your photos, consider the colour in your surroundings and aim to tone with them. The soft grey was perfect for that early evening glow at a North Beach sunset maternity session.
